A few weeks ago, I was engaged to photograph a hotel-like building which has shared areas such as games rooms and a gym. I was asked if I could do a virtual tour, which has opened up a wide new area for me. I think the genre has been made popular by Google Street View which has changed the way we explore new areas and locations.
I’m happy to remember that when I was a kid in the 70’s, with some birthday money, I bought a couple of adventure pocket books. They had a comic book style, with some accompanying text to each page, and a couple of arrows or more corresponding to your choice of your next action - depending on where you wanted to take the adventure next. Choose action 3, say, and you’d be directed to skip to page 50 to continue. Sometimes the outcome was exciting, sometimes ... Game Over.
As a framework to engage and excite, it was superb and I suppose it transitioned directly into online gaming. I’ve not seen such a book since.
I’ll blog again about what I’m learning but for now, over on my gallery pages, you can seem some of the work in progress pages.
What do you think ? Is this genre going to become more important? Or has it already had its day ?
