Often you’ll see a scene, and wait for the moment. The right moment might depend on your mood, the visualisation, the atmosphere. Here, on London’s Southbank, I was feeling the urban hardness and edginess. I wanted to bring together people, warmth, friendship and volatility, and contrast them with the concrete opposite. There’s a suggestion of danger in a subway, of the distant light being safety. If you stop and look at a map, others will look at you.
I used a leading line to lead somewhere, and a group of three.
